Where do you Find Great Quality Vinyl Records? – Part One

Posted by on November 30, 2016 . .

One of the most frequently asked questions we get at JJ’S Vinyl is Where do you source your new vinyl records from?

The answer is from quality suppliers and distributors in the US, UK, Europe and Australia. And over the next few weeks we thought it’d be a great idea to shine the spotlight on a few of the high quality pressing companies that we use to make up our catalogue. While they’re all great, their differences and specialities are worth taking note of.

Music On Vinyl

If you have had the chance to read our previous blog post on Audiophile Vinyl you would know that Music On Vinyl is one of our record labels of choice from a quality and price point perspective. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find a more consistent and quality label offering better value for money than Music On Vinyl.

Music On Vinyl is based in the Netherlands and specialises in high quality 180g LP and 7" vinyl pressings of a huge range of titles licensed from a diverse group of record companies and artists who control their own repertoire.

Another question we get asked all the time at JJ’s Vinyl is What is 180gm vinyl?

Before going any further into Music On Vinyl, I thought I’d clear up exactly what this term means. The term 180gm refers to the weight of the vinyl. Whilst not improving the sound quality, this extra wright has the advantage of a more robust and durable vinyl disc as a physical object, offering more resistance to breaking, warping, and other possible damage.

With the cost of new vinyl records, buying 180gm vinyl makes sense for the serious collector and vinyl enthusiast.

Music On Vinyl uses the best audio available to cut their records. They receive and use different kinds of masters, including analogue tapes, original metal parts, lacquers cut from analogue tapes and high res digital files 192/96khz/24 bit. Music On Vinyl does not use CD's as masters. Although the use of digital files is frowned upon by the vinyl purest, you have to admire the honesty and transparency of the record label in today’s market, where it’s common practice to keep this information undisclosed.

Music On Vinyl also specialises in Limited Release Coloured and Numbered Vinyl, making their releases highly sought after and collectable.

With such an expansive and diverse catalogue, Music On Vinyl offer something for most musical tastes, including artists such as: Michael Jackson, The Clash, Run DMC, Santana, Miles Davis, Mother Love Bone, Stone Temple Pilots and Faith No More, to name but a few.

At JJ’S Vinyl we stock all of these artists and more, check out our fantastic selection today and have your favourite album ready to play for Christmas.
